So we got another dog. We got him a Spider-Man collar and thus named him Parker. But this dog is already an adorable pain. He was a stray we adopted from the El Cajon shelter and he was scheduled to get fixed today. We wanted to surprise the kids by bringing him home right after school, we hadn’t even told them we got a dog, but he had other plans. I went to the vet to pick him up and everything seemed good, he was calm, sedated, and had his collar on. We walked outside and he was good, walked to the car, and when I opened the door he got scared and BOLTED. Pulled his head out of the collar and sprinted across Cuyamaca (6 lanes of cars and trolley tracks). Nearly got hit by a car and nearly got me hit too. He made it into the apartment complex across the street. I grabbed my car and drove over while the vet techs crossed the street. We couldn’t find him so I went over to the target parking lot (which he had to cross another 6 lanes to get to) and found him there. What followed was a 30 minute sprint fest involving 20ish strangers trying to help corral him, me running onto trolley tracks with the trolley coming to scare him off of them (cuz he sat on them oblivious to his impending doom), and he disappeared. I drove around for another half hour looking for him before getting a call that someone has finally nabbed him and called the vet. He was exhausted, dehydrated, and getting heat stroke from his escape. The vets treated him while I went home to get a crate, and we put him in it while still inside the animal hospital. But now he is home. So now we have Parker (spider-dog) and Loki. And they’re living in the same house. Which I think should be a sign that Spider-Man should be in the MCU.
Also it’s understandable that he would would run. He was a stray who in the last week has been in a shelter, fixed, and then handed off to a strange dude. Just kinda wish he woulda been easier to catch.
Thank you to all the random people who helped. The young lady who worked at Olive Garden, the random dude with his family who was running in flip flops, the vet techs, and the numbers people who worked to keep him from running into traffic. #dog #adopted #runner #santee
