As promised I would update you on Monster. Still alive and well drank yesterday and today and began gaining some form of coordination.
Monster is definately male, and the left side is still dominant. I will be introducing food tomorrow and they will be quarter inch crickets and micro supers, but I will warn if they do not feed by themselves, and they begin wasting I will make the decision to chose preservation over medical intervention, this is my call I will stand by it. An animal that cannot feed on it's own is where I draw the line. If it has to be liquid food, maybe but not if it has no will to eat. They have drank though which is promising.
As I said before I did not have too much hope for this animal especially since it has 1 heart, as it gets older it will struggle to keep up, I'm afraid. It is enlarged slightly when comparing it to it's siblings but I expect it is actually a heart that is fused. Three of my local vet's offices are also very interested in this and ive been updating them with specific information requested to further the understanding of these anomalies and I'm glad I chose to publically document this process.
As you can see the heart pumps from the right animal and into the left animal which makes sense that the left side is dominant, it is getting the most oxygen.
Again I will stress this is a very volatile situation and I've had many folks on both sides voice their opinion and that is why I am publically documenting this, because this is a real occurence and is often tossed into the garbage heap and ignored but this is real. If you're going to breed you will need to face these decisions head on and make these literal life or death decisions and the more information to go on the better.
As I've said I am giving "monster" a chance and the odds are still stacked heavily against them, but no matter what his contribution to the understanding of the reptile world will be meaningful.
He is not in any pain as of now and is as alert as ever. I am convinced there are two different thought processes in place and they're beginning to learn each other
