LET’S TALK ABOUT ONE OF 2019’s BIGGEST TRENDS ~ BLOAT STRESS.
We want to preface this by saying we empathize big time (eliz has so been there!) with anyone experiencing chronic bloat … especially due to any kind of food intolerance or ongoing health condition! What we’re talking about in this post is different though … we’re discussing the mindset around a specific kind of bloating ~ the obsession with a bloat that may be more so in your head than anything else, or something that’s linked to your relationship with food.
While we’re no doctors, we do know that stomach expansion to a degree (especially after a meal) is super normal. It’s so important to remember that your stomach isn’t supposed to be flat + empty all day long … no matter how healthy you eat & how often you work out! So pay attention to how you’re treating your body throughout the day, and/or post-meal … are you being overly critical of a NORMAL bodily function? Take note!
Over-doing certain foods, restricting/binging, or just being hard on your body are some of the reasons we believe this obsession with bloat has become such a thing. And, it can also turn into a domino effect … ever hear a friend mention they feel “so bloated” and you’re like, “ugh, SAME” … most of us have been there!
Our bodies (and our “bloat”) change all the time (especially during that time of the month). And we definitely aren’t knocking anyone with food allergies and/or food intolerances (again, been there!). That said, we think there needs to be a normalization around this specific kind of “bloat”. Just because our stomachs expand after eating, doesn’t mean there’s necessarily something wrong with us .. or that requires fixing!
Would love to hear any of your thoughts on this topic. xx #ssssweats
