I've been thinking a lot about what I want to accomplish next year. What will my word be.? What do I want to focus on?
I believe I am responsible for the happiness I feel in my life.
I alone can choose to be happy or sad, annoyed or patient, gritty or insecure.
I also know I have the power to change my home. To change how I parent. To show more patience and love.
And I'm definitely struggling.
This week has been incredibly hard as a parent. I feel like even little things are sending my impatience up the roof, and I am losing my cool a lot earlier and a lot quicker.
Part of it, I think, is due to some hormone imbalance (that I'm keeping an eye on). But part of it, I think, is definitely my own unrealistic expectations and story I’m telling myself.
I've been doing good with changing my expectations with our finances and our circumstances, letting go of perfectionism with myself and the life I “envisioned”. But I haven't let go of those same expectations for my kids. My hopes for how I want them to behave to each other. For how well I want them to do in school. For how clean I want their rooms to be. For how quiet I want my house to be when the migraine starts pounding.
How does one find a balance of establishing expectations and also leave room for individualism, growth, and unconditional love?
I hope to find out.

“I’ve always had a great desire to have children. Our first goal was to have two children biologically and then adopt additional children as well.
Jason has always had the desire to adopt children since he was adopted himself. Jason wants to give a child the same great opportunities that his adoptive parents gave him. Jason has always been proud of the fact that he was adopted and thanked his adoptive parents for giving him a very blessed live.
We met when I (Holly) joined a bowling league and became a team mate on Jason's team. It was sortly after that we started to date and we never looked back.
I was attracted to Jason's personality and smile. He always found a way to make me laugh and have a good time. Jason always enjoyed the fact that I was able to stay engaged during the conversation. Jason enjoyed my laugh and enjoyed the fact that my immediate family was fun and outgoing.
I feel that I am truly blessed knowing that I get to wake up every day next to the man I fell in love with. True love is so hard to find and I am so glad that I found mine and I will be able to spend the rest of my life with him.
According to Jason, the best decision he has ever made in his life was to marry me. Ever since we got married, he has enjoyed coming home from work to spend time with me, his wife. We are both very excited to adopt a child and start a new chapter in our marriage.”

Stormy was surrendered to animal control in early November due to her owner being unable to provide the vet care she needed. OLBH pulled her and had her transported to us, we thought she would be with us for awhile due to the horrible condition her skin was in. Medicated baths daily, antibiotics (both Baytril & Amoxicillin), T8-Keto ear cleanser twice a day. We had lined up a forever foster home for this senior lady to go to BUT, the Lord had a different idea I guess ;) We received an application to adopt Stormy from Shelby who is a vet tech for Stormy's original vet! Shelby had tried to get Stormy's original owner to give the dog up to her several times to no avail. Stormy and her new mom Shelby are now together and Stormy will be able to receive all of the care she needs to get her back to healthy skin, ears and eyes. Thanks so much Shelby for reaching out to us and adopting this sweet senior lady.

“We had a failed adoption through another agency after the birth of our son, but before we adopted our daughter. We were matched with a birth mother when she was 5 months along. Over the next four months we made multiple trips to where she lived - getting to know her, introducing our sons (who were both three), meeting her mother and going to doctor appointments.
The day before she delivered, she changed her mind. We didn’t even know she delivered her baby boy as she stopped returning phone calls and texts a few days prior. Three days after she delivered we received the worst call you can get from an agency. We were heart broken. I can’t even begin to explain how much pain we were in. The loss, the hurt, the hopelessness we felt. After waiting for two years and being days away from meeting our son we were back to the starting point. There were days, weeks we could barely function, but we continued to move forward and went back to the waiting process.
Three months later our daughter was born, and we were holding our sweet baby girl. I can’t tell you why we had to go through that much pain, but I wouldn’t change it. I wouldn’t change a thing as that led us to our baby girl, our daughter. The daughter that was meant to be part of our family.
A few weeks after the disruption I reached out to the birth mother of our disrupted adoption to let her know we weren’t upset with her. I told her we were hurting, but we still supported and loved her. It provided therapy for both of us and helped us put that hurt behind us. We still exchange pictures to this day and in some odd way I feel we helped her be able to parent that baby boy and made a difference in their life.” - Lisa, an adoptive parent

Mickey is approximately 1 years old. Mickey was rescued by a Good Samaritan who had found him being abused by some neighborhood kids and saved him! He is now safe with The Odd Cat Sanctuary and we named him Mickey after his rescuer! He is a friendly boy who purrs when he gets attention & loves kisses from our volunteers, though he will also let you know his limits when he becomes overstimulated. He does not like to be confined to small areas so we are eager to find Mickey a furrever home where he can have plenty of room to explore. Mickey does ok with other mellow cats. We would also prefer Mickey's furrever home not have young children. Please share him so he can find his purrfect furever home!

JOY UPDATE
Sweet Joy went to the vet and will be getting surgery on Wednesday to remove all her tumors. Thank you again, thank Naja for reaching out to the @standupforpitsfoundation about Joy. After getting no responses or help, she stayed diligent and because she did, Joy is getting a chance at life. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share Joy and her story and for being so kind to Naja throughout the process. Thank you to @kaleycuoco who is covering all of Joy’s medical expenses in full and to @underdogalliance for taking Joy on.
