Those of you who know me well know I love Trader Joe’s. But it did disappoint me this time... :
8.5% Stevia and 91.5% sugar! 
My skeptic radar always goes up when I see "100% natural" on a product.

So as I always do, I looked at the back label. I found that a one gram serving has one gram of carbohydrate. Strange, I thought this was stevia? Then in the ingredients we see that the primary ingredient is "rice maltodextrin". This is just another form of sugar and explains why that carbohydrate content is coming from. 
So what we have here is a product that's marketed as Stevia but is primarily maltodextrin!!! Let's do the math. If there's only 85mg of stevia per serving and the serving size is 1g (1000mg), maltodextrin makes up the other 915 mg! Yes friends it appears that this product is only 8.5% stevia. 
Sidenote:
When you see 100% natural and it's a single ingredient item...... It could mean they're trying to trick you into thinking it's 100% pure. 
The word "pure" actually means something.... The word "natural" is a USELESS and incredibly subjective term.

Anyone else hit up the samples at either Trader Joe’s and/or Costco? 🙋🏼‍♀️ My kids won’t let me pass a single one without checking out what they are offering. Last week TJ’s was serving a tomato soup with chickpeas. It had a little kick to it but it was so tasty. When I looked at the packaging of their tomato soup and chana masala I thought hold up! ✋🏻 It’s filled with dairy, soy and other things I typically avoid. So, when in doubt, make it yourself! Hubby loved it even though he hates tomato soup 👏🏻👏🏻

Recipe: 1 16oz can chickpeas • 1 4oz can tomato paste • 1 small sweet onion, chopped • 2 cups chicken stock (can also use vegetable stock) • 2 cups almond milk (I chose almond milk over coconut milk so that it does not alter the taste) • 1/2 cup Jalfrezi Curry sauce (found at Whole Foods) • 2-3 cloves fresh mined garlic • 1/2 tsp dried oregano • sea salt • black pepper • oil

Instructions: In a large pot, warm 2 Tbs of  oil. I used avocado oil • Drain the chickpeas and rinse. Add them to the pot with the onions • Sauté for about 10 minutes or until the onions become translucent • Add the minced garlic and curry sauce • Sauté for about another 5 minutes • Add the tomato paste, chicken stock, almond milk and oregano • Mix until well combined • Bring to a boil and then let simmer for about 15 minutes stirring occasionally • Add sea salt and black pepper to taste • Garnish with cilantro • Serve.

Easy breakfast courtesy of clearing out the fridge this weekend. Upgraded the recipe with chorizo + cumin + coriander seeds adding flavour to pimp the veg.

Cooked in one cooking pan in under 15 mins. You could fry instead of scrambled if you prefer. Use any vegetables you have to use up such as carrots, leeks, cabbage, sprouts etc.

• 4 medium organic eggs
• handful white mushrooms
• large handful curly kale
• 1 small onion
• Chorizo, 25 grams - finely diced
• 1/2 tbsp EV Olive Oil
• 1/2 tbsp coriander seeds / cumin seeds

1. Heat pan on medium high. Add the onion and chorizo. Cook down for 3 minutes until onions soft and chorizo is crisped.
2. Reduce to medium. Add the spices + Add the mushrooms. Cook for 2 mins.
3. Add the kale, cook for 2 mins.
4. Remove the veggies.
5. In a bowl, beat the eggs.
6. Add the EV Olive oil to the pan on medium heat.
7. Add the eggs, allow to set then fold in the edges allowing the uncooked egg to flow into the empty space and repeat clockwise.
7. Turn heat off when 80% cooked through as it will contribute to cook through the next few minutes.
8. Add the eggs to the hash and serve.

Great way to add some additional veggies in to your breakfast whilst keeping it low carb with ample protein and fat.

Look, it is very easy to get caught up on what number the scale shows.⁣
⁣
Many people believe that it is the end all be all of results.⁣
⁣
This is simply not true.⁣
⁣
We can see progress in other forms! ⁣
⁣
Here are some ways you can see progress other than the scale.⁣
⁣
1) Increased energy - If you are eating right, exercising, and getting better sleep, you will find yourself having increased energy throughout the day. This is great!⁣
⁣
2) You are feeling stronger - Maybe you are progressing in the gym and getting stronger, lifting more weights, or maybe you can go on the treadmill for longer than last week. That is great progress. Your body is getting stronger!⁣
⁣
3) You are more positive - Maybe your exercising and eating habits have helped you be more positive and have a better outlook on things. I know that having some great music and lifting some weights puts me in a great mood.⁣
⁣
4) You are more confident - Maybe you didn't want to have pictures taken of you before. Now, you are asking your friends to take a picture of you because you know you are looking great! Increased confidence is priceless. Go you!⁣
⁣
5) Your clothes are fitting better - This is a big one. If your clothe are fitting better or maybe getting looser, you can definitely bet that you are loosing some weight. Good for you! ⁣
