A religious person seeks transcendence from the world using their sense faculties and the conceptual aspect of the mind - relying on sacred books, external teachers, institutions and even substances for an awakening that perhaps will happen one day, or sometime after death, or another promised place or realm.
The mind of realization experiences the world of the sense faculties as Illusory in the here and now, and is therefore free of dualistic ignorance, desire, and hostility. The primordial mind is it’s own teacher and does not seek outside of itself for its own liberation.
The intrinsic nature of mind is always present. The idea that you are or have a body or that you have a mind, thoughts, emotions, with a personal history and a projective personal future to transcend are symptoms of bewilderment and dualistic confusion.
Not in the future, your nature is pure awareness now, vast like a still ocean, timeless and beyond concept. There is no path to take you to the place that you already are. The appearance of an external book or teacher may point to the sacred, but what is realized cannot be embodied in a form or in the mind, instead Pure Awareness realizes that all forms, the body, the conceptual mind, the sacred texts and teachers are its own reflection. You will never realize Pure Awareness, it is Awareness that awakens and realizes that you are not separate, that you and every other being are its own sacred reflection.
