Yesterday we had a hospital appointment for Hallie’s tongue tie. On our way the main road to get there was closed so we had to do a U-turn and find another way. Which meant we would be 10 minutes late. When I walked in I was told the lady who was meant to be seeing us hadn’t turned up.
We waited a little to see if she was just late, while the staff tried to call her but failed to get through. We were then given the option to rebook or wait an hour for a midwife on the maternity ward. We decided to wait as the midwife was a specialist in tongue ties and we had driven for over an hour to get there, another hour wouldn’t make a difference so we headed up to the maternity ward to wait.
During this time Rocco was getting very agitated, so my mum took him for a walk. They were only gone for 5 minutes as Rocco had become very poorly and was struggling to breathe (two days before he was diagnosed with croup). Shortly after my name was called to take Hallie through.
Hallie and I went into a room where the midwife took a look at little lady. She had said the tongue tie wasn’t bad and that she had good movement within her tongue but thought it was best to perform the cut. Hallie cried throughout the cut. I was so proud and had to hold the tears back as I hated hearing her scream. There wasn’t much blood, she immediately latched on afterwards and fell asleep within seconds.
When I came out Rocco was breathing better but we still wasn’t happy so down to a&e we went. After 20 minutes of checking in Rocco was called in by the nurse who done the general checks before telling us to wait for the doctor. We came out and my mum took Rocco into the play room while I waited in the main room feeding Hallie and we kept swapping. Rocco spent his time in the play room sitting reading different books. He was then seen by the doctor, who decided to give him some steroids. After being monitored for an hour, all was fine and the doctor was happy to send us home.
Everything seemed to be going wrong yesterday but we seem to be on the mend today. Hallie was rather unsettled last night but is feeding better already. Rocco’s still wheezy and barking but it’s eased off so much. 🖤
