Lo stagno delle ninfee di Claude Monet
Olio su tela del 1899
National Gallery, Londra
.

I really enjoyed the Hudson River School pieces in the National Gallery. Here’s a sampling - they tend to be big sweeping landscapes with great views and great clouds. There was a series of four pieces called The Voyage of Life by Thomas Cole that was more symbolic. As far as I know, that’s more unusual, but it was really fascinating. I included two here - they’re the ones with the angels. .
Here are the names of the pieces for the curious. I try to always take a picture of the name/sign so I can figure out what it was later! * Autumn - On the Hudson River, 1860 by Jasper Francis Cropsey, plus a closeup
* The Voyage of Life: Childhood, 1842 by Thomas Cole, plus two closeups. * The Voyage of Life: Youth, 1842 by Thomas Cole, plus one closeup. * El Rio Del Luz, 1877 by Frederic Edwin Church * Mount Corcoran by Albert Bierstadt, 1876-7

Just home from an early morning corporate event.
I love doing work like this. I have had the honour of meeting and listening to amazing people.

This morning I got a little teary eyed... Glen Keys form the amazing Project Independance spoke. He showed a clip of what his not for profit does. The showed the footage from when My Aunts application was accepted. She now owns her home.
Thank you Glen.
Haven't heard of Project Independance? Google the amazing work they are doing for the mentally disabled in our community.

Unrelated, just thinking out loud.

My friend Salma says freedom is not without boundaries. The idea that we are free to do what we want is one that is far fetched.
There are a million and one things I'd love to do now, but bounded by regulations, commitments, morals and such.

So are we truly free? Is there such a thing as mental freedom? The ability to be completely be void of any influences so as to be completely liberal.

Freedom to me is a state of mind, one which results in complete acceptance. When we completely accept ourselves... Then we are truly free.

I was thinking about Friendship the other day. How some people drift into your life and change it forever.... positively. Friendship is the most intuitive relationship ever. Friendship is also free spirited. Why do we then go into loving relationships with plans and manuals?

Imagine if every relationship is allowed to develop just like a friendship.
I want to be free spirited, live in the moment and love freely... Be so different, they can't ignore you

Baba and Billy / Portrait of the artist's daughter, Vivian. (c.1920)
.
🎨 Painted by John Duncan.
Born: 19 July 1866, Dundee, United Kingdom.
Died: 1945.
.
🏛 Location: Kirkcaldy Galleries, Kirkcaldy, UK.
.
📝 Duncan, the son of a butcher and a jute weaver. He gained his first art training at Dundee School of Art (based in the High School) and began his career working as an illustrator for local newspapers and magazines while still a teenager.

In 1887 he travelled to London and spent an unhappy time as a commercial artist. From there he moved on to study in Antwerp and Dusseldorf and later spent time in France and Italy.

Between 1889 and 1891 he worked as a professional artist in Dundee, and it was at this time that he met Patrick Geddes, Professor of Botany at University College, Dundee. Geddes was then leading a Celtic Revival movement in Edinburgh and in 1892 Duncan moved there to undertake murals and other decorative art projects.

In 1897 Duncan returned to Dundee and began to exhibit Celtic-inspired artworks. He also gathered around him a group of young decorative artists to form Dundee’s first design collective, exhibiting their work in a special section of the Graphic Arts Association’s exhibitions.

He began teaching, first at the YMCA then University College and finally the art school in Dundee Technical Institute (now DJCAD). This led in 1900 to his appointment as Professor of Art in Chicago.

Duncan’s time in Chicago was a frustrating one for him, and in 1903 he returned to Scotland and settled in Edinburgh where he established himself as one of the country’s leading painters. He was elected to the Royal Scottish Academy and became an inspirational figure for younger artists such as the Scottish Colourists.

In 1941 he was awarded a major retrospective exhibition in the Scottish National Gallery, an unprecedented honour for a living artist.

❤️
The painting forms a full-length double portrait, believed to depict the Italian merchant Giovanni di Nicolao Arnolfini and his wife, presumably in their home in the Flemish city of Bruges.
(...)
It is considered one of the most original and complex paintings in Western art, because of its beauty, complex iconography, geometric orthogonal perspective, and expansion of the picture space with the use of a mirror. 📖📲(link in a bio)
