Tell me it isn’t true, but sadly, I think it is. Very often, our need for ‘change’ is tied to acceptance, to validation, to the desire to be liked or even loved by others. So much so, that we would change our entire world for it. We would change our looks, we would filter our thoughts, we would completely disassociate ourselves from who we truly are, just for a taste of what it might feel like to look ‘different’. Well... how about we think different? How about we FEEL different? How about we look in the mirror and decide to love ourselves. Decide to accept ourselves. Decide that finally we will stop pressuring our minds and our bodies with this drive to be ‘liked’, and rest comfortably with liking ourself? Isn’t that enough?
I think it is. I think it’s time. I think that we can, and should, be driven by our own desires, our own goals, our own beliefs, and do away with these troubled thoughts of outside validation.
