Thoughts going into squat:
Was so “enthusiastic,” but ready to fight nonetheless.  For about a month I was working around right knee issues from training, which brought down my work load drastically.  Stretching, topical creams, and ibuprofen helped.
Warm ups felt easy, first Attempt went up fast, and second Attempt felt smooth.  Played it conservative on the third Attempt cause I still wanted to play.

Built up to a beltless squat single in runners at 8 @ 130kg, 9 @ 135kg, 7 @ 125kg, Then deadlift time. ⬇️
Built to a single at 165kg, felt like 9.5 off floor but lock out was easy so had a cheeky look to side. 155kg for 3 and 2 sets of 2 @ 152.5kg and I’m done!

Finished session with a mini circuit of pull downs, DB press, leg extensions, hamstring curls and back extensions for 4 rounds for accessory work👌

Afternoon watching the Swannies while finishing off a seminar on exercise and mental health, presenting this coming week to the Drug Courts of Victoria. These guys do amazing work reforming addicts and keeping them out of the never ending cycle jail, release, re-offend. Allowing them a chance at a normal life after often very tough starts. 🔵
Glad to play a part helping all the support staff to this amazing program in their own physical and mental health.

The scale is a vastly used instrument that a lot of people quickly hop onto, look at the number and then react either negatively or positively about that number. That number is apparently significant and we put so much value on it. Let me be clear and say that the scale is a tool in a toolbox when it comes to measurement of health. It is not the be all and end all, you don't need to put a value on that number.

The number on a scale can be skewered by a number of factors; timing, quality of sleep, stress/anxiety, water and salt intake and the menstrual cycle. All of these can cause your weight to increase or decrease on any given day, which is why you need to track a multitude of factors rather than just your scale weight.
• • •
Unless you are consistently tracking your weight (most days of the week, in the morning before food and after the toilet) and for a specific reason, it's probably in your best interest to not jump on the scale.

So most of us know that we have to curl in some way shape or form in order to build our biceps but there's actually a lot more than goes into the bicep such as the long, short head, the brachialis (which lies beneath the other two heads) and it's cousin with a even longer name brachioradialis.  All these muscle play a role in getting bigger arms and even the your forearm muscles which crossover the elbow is responsible for elbow-flexion movements can only aid yourself in increasing your bicep size.  Also even though the brachialis is a fairly small muscle and underneath the other two heads, increasing its size can increase the overall size of your arm.

So what I have here is the major muscle groups of your bicep and if you want well developed arms, you're going to have to hit all the muscle groups.

Back in 2016  I tried my hardest to break into the top 20 all time with a total of 727.5kg which just scraped into it.

Before the British I was still sitting at No20 with a 740kg total.

Now I've shot up 15 places, now sitting at rank 5 with a 765kg total, the caliber of lifters in the u75kg is immense!

If I could describe tonight’s workout using only one word - it would be horrible. Not only was I not able to lift my prescribed numbers, I had to drop 10lbs and I still was only able to complete 3/6 sets before bailing out. I had to yet again drop my numbers down only to bail out with that weight as well. This is when I decided to strip the bar and call it a night. Moral of the story? Not every day you’re going to feel strong, on point, 100%, etc. Sometimes you need to swallow your pride, regroup and try again tomorrow.

VARIATIONS IN SQUAT MOVEMENT PATTERNS!

What’s up, Achievers?! @jasonlpak here and today we’re talking squats! We love to give simple tips and recommendations on our page to enhance your form, but it’s important to note that these are all just guidelines to work off of and there’s going to be some variability from person to person.

In the four different patterns above from @ebeinsofine @sarahpolacco @laurenpak22 and myself, you’ll notice that they all follow the same principles and look *very similar* but have *slightly* different styles based upon our differences in proportions and different mobility capabilities.

So, your squat might look a bit different from your workout buddy, your friend from work, or your trainer, or your favorite IG personality and that’s totally fine! There are general guidelines we like to recommend and have our members follow (like knees not caving in, or trying to balance along the mid-foot, or not excessively going into spinal flexion, etc.), but there’s still room for variability based upon everyone’s unique body type and structure and still meet those criteria.

Also, based on your body type, it might mean that you might feel better with certain types of squats. A taller lifter with tighter ankles might gravitate towards a low bar back squat while a shorter lifter with better ankle mobility might prefer high bar back squats or someone brand new might feel better with air squats or goblet squats! At the end of the day, as long as you’re squatting, you’re doing great!

Doing some more unilateral work lately. I have been trying to find ways to load single leg step ups without having a bar on my back or having to deal with the sway of dumbbells. I decided to go with a small box step up on the trap bar and found that it worked really well, actually much better than I expected. This was my strength stimulus, along with some single leg isometric work using the belt squats set up in previous videos. I also added single leg depth jumps, something I really am not very good at. I would like to continue to improve on this area, as it is something I think will not only help me and jumping, but with a general explosive movements.. .

It is kind of interesting to note, that we don’t see much unilateral jumping movements in a strength and conditioning. At times they are pretty difficult to execute, because of your body mass becomes enough resistance to have an adequate amount of overload. This is where I like to start off, personally, with band assistant jobs and then progressed into single leg jumps with a counter moving and want to comfortable moving into single leg depth jumps. On a personal note, I am for myself do not only loaded one type of job at a time. I tend to mix them in at different rates and amounts. I have never really done a whole bunch of single leg strength work, but can obviously tell it is lacking.

These specific step ups are not included in the vertical power program, however we do have unilateral emphasis days, especially in phase 3. Here is the loaded calf circuit, used with a barbell, that I use in my vertical power program. I found that loaded calf exercises really helped with some of my ankle and shin pain. When playing, I would get some tightness through my soleus as well as my upper calf. I thought it was from my added body weigh, but really found some relief with loaded movements. @fowler_fitness_spt talks about this quite a bit and it has paid off for you. Verkhoshansky stated that they were important not for propulsion but as a part of the needed infrastructure. .
Not saying this is the cure all, but since I started adding these in my program, I have seen a lot of benefits in terms of pain reduction. I actually don’t have any pain anymore jumping off of 1 foot, which has been awesome because it has been something that has bothered me for over four years.
