Posted @withrepost • @thelegendof.kora For #rarediseaseday I wanna spread some more awareness about my genetic disorder #hypokalemicperiodicparalysis. Ive never met a disorder that has so much depth and can do so much. It's no wonder many people get misdiagnosed for years before getting a proper diagnosis. I was lucky that I had a dad and brother that had already been tested for the genetic mutation despite both of them being asymptomatic. It was a no Brainer for my doctor when I checked off every box on the long long long list of synptoms including an attack of full body paralysis where I couldn't even talk. The full list of symptoms is about 3-4 printer pages long so I won't bore you by posting that here 😂 so enjoy my short list. Attacks can be caused by medications, adrenaline, saline, high sodium, carbs, and rest after strenuous exercise, there's also many other triggers and depends on the individual. What I forgot to mention above is the PAIN you deal with in your muscles like you got ran over by 5 trains in a row and how my muscles get damaged and atrophy....it definately keeps you on your toes...If you ever want to know more you can always ask me!
