Hi. If you feel disrespected about transwomen using the women’s cr, badtrip about PUP students protesting against the mandatory random drug testing and demotivated about your latest memo for being late due to Manila’s fucking traffic, you have to meet Deyv (/deɪˈv/). Deyv is a member of the Tiruray Tribe, one of the minority tribes in Maguindanao, mostly living around the foothills of the Municipality of Datu Odin Sinsuat. He is a 13-year old Grade 7 student and he is my guide to Mt. Minandar’s summit. He spends his free time taking chances to be assigned by Datu Odin Sinsuat Tourism Office as a mountain guide, and earns 150 pesos per hike to help his parents with his education. He wants to be a soldier someday. Deyv is the eldest of five siblings— which three years ago went down to four. One of his younger sisters was raped and then murdered by his uncle in South Upi, Maguindanao while she was under the custody of her grandfather and the supervision of her teacher to compete for a kid’s pageant. Her chopped and dilapidated remains were discovered 7 days after her death.
I don’t know what the Tiruray Tribe’s religion is as the men in the village wear kimon but the women do not wear burqa, but when I asked Deyv, he said he doesn’t believe in any god. He said “if God really does exist, why would he let uncle do it to my sister?” Beauty is greater than politics, religion and your views about the LGBT community. Know your priorities.
